The Eclipse movie comes out tomorrow! Eclipse was my favorite of the Twilight Saga books, so I am anxious to see how the movie compares. In general, I have not liked the Twilight movies as much as the books, but it is still fun to see the action play out.
What do you think? If you see the Eclipse movie, let us know what you think about the book vs. movie.

I like it very much !
but where can we see the film on the Internet?
thank you
go spend the 10 bucks to go see it. JEEZE. So not worth the crummy quality and aggrivation!
Hmm, I don’t think I knew that. I thought you liked the last one the most. Eclipse was my favorite, too.
Twilight and New Moon were dead on (no pun intended). Eclipse was a huge disappointment. I would have rather had my sleep than go to his midnight premier. Eclipse and Breaking Dawn are the best books and with many added scenes in the movie that were not in the book, as well as added dialogue, the movie was hard to follow. The person sitting next to me, having not read the book, asked what was going to happen next, and I had to say, I don’t know, they aren’t following the book. Scenes that did make the movie were clipped and downplayed. Overall a disappointment. I hope they follow the book in Breaking Dawn.
Total disappointment, confusing and hard to follow.
Eclipse was also my favorite book of the Twilight series, but I haven’t seen the movie yet. I’m not willing to listen to the teenagers scream every time Jacob takes off his shirt. I think New Moon was a better movie than Twilight because they had a larger budget. I’m really looking forward to seeing the movie (after the mania dies down.)
I liked New Moon better. I felt it more accurately followed the book and really how can you go wrong with that? In Eclipse as in the first Twilight move the pace was a little fast. It felt like Slade was trying to cover all the pesky important parts of the book while trying to deliver the scenes that we knew about but weren’t fully told. Parts were slimmed down to the esssence of what happend but you kinda thought, “well there was more to that, but okay.”
I agree, the eclipse movie was a huge disappointment. It was overly hyped. I felt that the movie didnt have the same feeling as the book. The book was way better. The movie was rushed through; there was added scenes and diologue. Bella’s character/attitude in the movie couldnt be any futher from what it was in the book. What Bella says in the ending really killed it (not in the book at all!). It felt like she just wanted to be a vampire only. She didnt have the immense love she had in the book for edward. She was actually kinda mean to him several times. (way wrong!) It had to many important scenes missing. I really hope they stay close to the book in the fourth and fith movie installments.
Vanessa, I couldn’t agree with you, and most others, more! I was so sorely disappointed and felt totally cheated. This movie, done right, had the potential to be amazing, because the book was full of intense emotions and action and complexity. Unfortunately it wasn’t and Slade rushed through it all, it was choppy and more like getting a lifeless sample of everything he and the screen writer thought were important. What upset/baffled me most was this movie version of Bella. Completely opposite of the books and even a far cry from the previous movie installments. In the whole series of books, notably Eclipse, Edward is Bella’s whole world and she makes the choice to be with him, because HE is worth all that she will have to give up. It’s all about her intense love for Edward. In the movie, in that horrible little speech she gives in the end (which put me over the edge) she makes it sound as if Edward is just the icing on the cake by choosing vampire life. She seems aloof and you get the feeling through the whole movie that she’s just not that into Edward, at least not for more than sex. Ugh – the acting was horrible too. They all killed the characters for me. I hope they don’t butcher Breaking Dawn, but I don’t have much hope. And for the love of god and all that’s holy, someone please fix Jasper’s hair.
Like many of you I have read the Saga many times and Eclipse was my favorite book. The movie on the other hand was a huge let down! The graphics were bad like really cheesy! they had the money to really do a amazing job New Moons graphics were better and i believe new Moon is the best movie soo far and thats saying alot for me Im a die hard Edward fan.I didnt feel the Eclipse movie gave the book any justice at all it didnt have the same vibe as the book.Hopefully the guy who is directing Eclipse isnt doing the final others
I agree with many of the other posters. In the book, Myers made several allusions to the flawed characters in Wuthering Heights, with the main point being that despite their flaws, maybe even BECAUSE of their flaws, they are perfect together. We see both Edward and Bella as FLAWED characters, which adds a dimension of complexity to them both as people…and allows the reader to relate to the idea that love does involve sacrifice, AND that those in love still make mistakes.
The book also pays homage to the oral traditional of Native American culture and a feeling of community within the Quileutes that does not shine through in their rushed, barely related depiction of the bonfire scene.
They missed parts. They cut parts. They skimmed important details. They trimmed important bits out of character interaction and dialogue that helps one understand the rest of the Cullen family much better (at least Rosalie and Jasper.) There is a delicious tension in Bella’s relationship with Jacob that is not thoroughly conveyed (not to mention that their kiss lacked Bella’s initial reluctance, Jacob’s frustration and ferocity, and the final sweetness described in the novel.
Bella is a stronger character here, true. However, I would have preferred for her to maintain more of the awkwardness and total obsession with Edward that is true of the novel. IF he is indeed her reason for existing, why is she not making the decision to become immortal based solely on her undying love for him? Is it because the idea is too romantic? Too GIRLY? We are the fans! Screw the guys who make fun of the series and/or don’t understand or appreciate this aspect of story!!! STAY TRUE TO US!
I have waited long for this movie to come out, and my hopes were sky-high due to the overall accuracy of Twilight and New Moon. I was so let down after leaving the preview that I muttered in disbelief the entire way home. I would not be surprised if Eclipse was described as an EPIC FAIL for true fans of the novel series. As a movie, it was decent…but if you are looking for the FEEL of the book to be captured in this movie as it was in New Moon, dash your hopes NOW before you go to the movie theater to watch this one.
PLEASE get a NEW DIRECTOR for the next installments!
There were things I liked abot it and things I didn’t. They skimmed/skipped important things from the book, added things not in the book (charlie getting checked out by the intruder and the endless buildup of what was going on in Seattle) but they did some things well. I was not totally over the moon about the change of having Bella actually see Jake get hurt. The engagement scene was nice but would have been better had they let the audience get a view of them happy that was not far out a window.
Glad to see on here I wasn’t the only one disappointed! Everyone I went to see it with thought it was great, but I was not impressed. It felt more like a vampire movie then a movie about Bella and Edward, which is why I am into the books. This is my favorite book from the series and I felt like they missed the whole point. There was no chemistry between bella and edward. I also noticed later that what really made the first 2 movies feel like the books, is Bella is narrating through both. She didn’t do that is this one did she? She never looked happy either. Why do they use a new director each movie anyway, I am just wondering?
I have read all of the Twilight series books many times over and love the story’s intriguing plot about a clumsy, shy teenage girl having a super beautiful immortal and werewolf fight for her honor. Even better is how in the end of the series as opposed to overindulging violence and weapons, the vamps use mind powers and seek peace between the Volturi, only opting to violence as a last resort. Nonetheless, my imagination took me into a far more artistic and romantic world reading the books than did the movies. Not that the movies are bad. I can see that all of the directors and everyone involved in the projects put their hearts into it. However, what I think lacks overall, is the profound depth of the drama that a love story between a vampire, human and werewolf deserves. Honestly, I wish that Hardwicke had continued directing the movies because with a more sufficient budget, and from a FEMALE perspective I think the love scenes and emotion she brought to Twilight could have been awesome in New Moon and Eclipse. Also, she brought in the piece of artistic appreciation. For example haunting music and allowing Pattinson to have his own songs in the movie. I definitely felt more drawn in and easily suspended my disbelief in Twilight due to Hardwicke’s direction. In New Moon I had to really force NOT being disappointed by Lautner’s cheesy acting. Yes, I realize he is a teenager but in the book he is far more hormonal and convincing. Also, I think Lautner is a terrific comical actor and needs more experience in the world of drama and romance. And even though people complain about Bella being selfish and whiney, well that is the natural part of being a teenager and is very believable.
Back to Eclipse. The beginning was exciting, but could have been more so with better, creepier music. I love how they FINALLY put the meadow scene in! This was one major moment I missed in Twilight. The movie did move sequentially along with the book quite well. I liked the chase with Victoria and the preparation for the fight, especially the clips with Alice and Jasper. Although I was surprised by Jasper’s Southern draw, granite he did not have many lines in Twilight or New Moon, but this was a little much to give him a heavy accent when it was obvious his one liners before carried nothing of the sort. Again, I had to force disbelief and make my imagination work, something the directors and writers should do for their audience!
The motorcycle scene was too quick and unbelievable. Bella would not have driven away on a bike with Jacob in front of Edward. In the book Alice had to catch her and tell Edward. And the whole scene where Edward and Jacob are arguing was much more interesting and fun in the book because they attracted a crowd and it was really dramatic and emotional, which led to Bella REBELLLING the ride when Edward was NOT present.
Yet another disappointment was the ring. In the book it was described as a long oval webbed with jewels. The ring in the movie looked like a tacky, gaudy ring that a sorcerer would wear. Come on, with the budget they have now acquired for these films you would think they could at least make a classy, gorgeous ring that Bella could actually pull off wearing. This one is hideous and ruined the awe inspiring romantic acting that Pattinson was portraying that made me almost breathless, until I saw that damn ring! This scene had so much potential. The Debussy playing in the background when he first places the bracelet on Bella’s arm, gorgeous. The bed, gorgeous, (all though could have been more dreamy). And the depth of Pattinson’s wondrous acting to lead up to this ring? What kind of representation of their love is this?
Now my last MAJOR disappointment was the kiss between Bella and Jacob. In the book Bella flashes her life of what could have been with Jacob. She sees russet skinned children and the sun shining symbolizing Jacob as her own personal sun. It is a beautiful scene in the book that is completely IGNORED in the movie, what is going on? This is so crucial to showing her deeply torn emotional hell between her feelings for Jacob and Edward. After all, Edward left her in turmoil and she developed this intense relationship with Jake. I can see the reality of this love triangle from all perspectives and don’t blame any of the characters for their natural, hormonal feelings. But to leave out such a crucial scene so that we see these feelings as believable and to the depth that they would be felt is unforgiving. I was waiting for this scene and I am sure so many others were. You have got to see what could have been, all of our minds are naturally programmed for that, so why did we not see Bella’s could have been with Jacob? Though I am Team Edward all the way, I still think we should respect Team Jacob fans. Come on, there is a whole entire culture built on Team Edward versus Team Jacob and there is no sense of what could have been with Jacob? Like I said, unforgiving.
Nevertheless, I did enjoy the humor and romance between Bella and Edward. Even though I liked in the book more that Bella had to push Edward away to get her breath back when they were making out on the bed. And Charlie’s character was, as always, great, he grounds the whole movie because he is completely oblivious to everything mystical happening. I did also like the bonding between Bella and Renee. I think that was even better than the book.
The ending of Eclipse, however, between Jacob and Bella was nothing but pathetic. Come on, could we not have a bit longer of a movie to deliver this crucial moment for Jacob that leads into his relentless pain in Breaking Dawn that has been so obviously building since Twilight?! They should have definitely added the epilogue of the book to end the movie to show Jake’s pain. Although I did like the last meadow scene, that was pretty.
Overall, I think the movie was good and worth seeing. Afterall, you have to if you are a fan of the books. But the movies should deliver at least where our imaginations take us when we read the books, and if they are phenomenally done, the movies will take us far beyond what our imagination expects and surprise us with things we would have loved to have seen in the books, not the opposite where the movie lacks some of the best scenes in the book and shortens important moments to satisfy a time limit.
During Eclipse I felt moments of excitement and intrigue and then felt almost depressed with no follow through. Another example is the development of the newborns and Victoria, none of which I thought were at all as ravenous and frightening as the book portrayed them to be. The movie was not dark enough, deep enough or beautiful enough. It just merely TOUCHED on those emotions brought about from the book and only teased my imagination. I will, of course see it many times so when I do I can prepare myself to imagine scenes that aren’t there, at least the movie was good enough for me to do that, even though I shouldn’t have to. SO, Breaking Dawn, please deliver your best yet, or I will have to write a novel that is merely inspired by what I think these films could have been…Please don’t get me wrong this whole entire critique may appear more negative than positive but honestly I love the IDEA of the story SO much and the actors, characters, etc. that any depressing disappointments will not keep me away from finding the good in the movies and at least pretending they lived up to their potential.
Here i was thinking i was the only one. However i see alot of you making the mistake of thinking that the problem comes down to just the director… The screenwriter seems to have decided what makes it from the book to the movie so i think she has alot to answer for as well. I had been looking forward to eclipse coming out pretty much as soon as the craze of new moon was done, Everyone, including actors in interviews were going on about how action packed it was, but if thats action packed…. maybe we need to redefine the word. Slow motion summersaults in mid air, oh no a wolf is on my chest, and the constant stop! look at me growl! was just pathetic. Steph, u have whored your masterpeice, i sure hope they tied u down and said mwahaha we r ruining ur amazing work and there is nothing u can do about it… coz if that movie had your stamp of approval on it, then its clear your only interested in the money, and not about making something that has united and filled so many people with such amazing and intense emotions never felt before into a beautiful bunch of moving pictures. I feel really let down.
I am so glad to see these other posts! I agree with all of you. Eclipse was my FAVORITE book, so I was so looking forward to seeing it played out on the screen. Instead, I was completely disappointed throughout the whole movie. It seems like the screenwriter and the director were trying so hard to attract a new audience that they ruined it for all of us die-hard fans that have loved the other movies and all of the books. We are the fans! Write a movie for us if you want the movie to make millions and millions of dollars. Don’t write a movie to try and attract the Twilight haters! The reason why I love the books so much is because of the romance. It’s not really even about the vampire/werewolf thing. It’s about this great love story! They were trying so hard to have more action to attract guys to see the movies, that they forgot about the beautiful love story that Stephenie Meyer wrote about in her book. This movie had the potential of being a great movie, but it ended up being a total disappointment.
Some of my favorite parts in the book were completely left out of the movie. So many parts were changed, and then there were other parts that weren’t even in the book at all! The budget for this movie was way more than the one for the first Twilight movie, but the hair and make-up were better in the first movie. With a director who loves close-up shots, you would think that they would try to make the make-up look amazing, and by the way, what is up with everyone’s hair? The wigs were awful looking! For any character who had to wear one in the first 2 movies, they looked so much better than the ones they wore in Eclipse.
I also felt like each scene was really short and rushed, and then they would jump into the next scene. It didn’t flow well at all. It felt so choppy. Maybe if I hadn’t read the book, then I would have liked it, because I wouldn’t have known what I was missing. For all of the great early reviews that the movie got, they must have been from people that just saw the movie and didn’t read the book. The book had so many moving, touching, and heart-breaking moments that were completely lost in the movie.
I loved the part in the book where Alice was “baby-sitting” Bella–that was left out. I agree with an earlier post that Bella would have never jumped on the motorcycle with Jacob right in front of Edward. The movie also made it look like Bella couldn’t wait to get married, but we all know from the book that the idea of getting married freaked her out. If anything, she was going to elope with Edward in Las Vegas. She didn’t want a wedding until the end of the book, when she finally gave in to Alice, but with limits. They never even showed any of that in the movie. Alice had a much bigger part in the book, after all, she is Bella’s best friend, but you wouldn’t know that if you saw the movie. Charlie, who I love, hardly had any parts in the movie. The part after the tent scene where Jacob hears Bella and Edward talking about getting married was one of the parts in the book that made me cry. Jacob was in his wolf-form, far away from them, and he let out an awful tortured sounding howl, and that is how Bella knows that he heard them. In the movie, he’s just standing there in his human form and overhears them. Then she just takes Jacob a few steps away and makes out with him with Edward practically standing right there. Also in the book, when Carlisle is resetting Jacob’s broken bones, he is drugged up on morphine and doesn’t feel anything, because he’s asleep. In the movie, they have him screaming in pain. The other part in the book that had me sobbing was when Bella goes to see Jacob after he comes to and pours out her feelings. That part was so lame in the movie. They also don’t show that Jacob heals really quickly, and they left out the epilogue where Jacob gets the wedding invitation. That would have been a great way to end the movie and get fans excited to see the next Breaking Dawn movie. Instead, I was so disappointed that it made me think twice.
I have watched Twilight and New Moon a million times, but I can’t imagine myself wanting to watch this movie over and over again. Because I sooo loved this book, I was looking forward to seeing this movie more than any of the others. I can’t say this enough–Such a huge disappointment!
I know it can’t be easy to turn a book into a movie and that some parts have to be cut out, but they cut out the wrong parts and put in made-up parts that really didn’t need to be in the movie. I would rather see a movie that is 2 1/2 hours long where the good parts are left in and the story is told correctly, than to see a movie like this. The whole movie never made me cry once. The only time I cried was when it was over, and I realized that they totally screwed up the movie. I felt so let down!
Kristen, You are SO completely right! What is missing is the focus on the beautiful love story between Edward and Bella!
I agree with what all of you are saying. Eclipse missed so many important, emotional parts of the book that made me cry too. I feel helpless and frustrated that they just didn’t make it longer to add those details. Thank you all for understanding!!!
I tought eclipse was dissapointing. dont get me wrong what they had was good enough if you hadn’t read the book. it rushed right into everything, didn’t make sense when bella got on the bike in front of edward. personally i didnt know what was happening in that scene. Also they left out scenes with bella and alice which i would have loved to see. the fight training scene was good also the fight was good. jasper and alice were great. And i’m not sure but i tought at the start of eclipse yano when riley gets turned did that say ” One Year Ago” or something because if it does how does that work out?. also would have liked the scene with angela and bella. i meen how much are those actors being paid to just sit at a table for not even 30 seconds of time on screen.
i didnt like how they added stuff in like scenes and stuff they could have kept more to the books.
overall i was okay tought they rushed a bit into it. everything happened really fast.
Eclipse was absolutely horrible..
I felt so helpless after seeing that movie, I actually wanted to un-watch it. They left out and changed so many things, it was sickening.
I’m afraid to see Breaking Dawn now, for fear that it’ll be as badly portrayed as Eclipse was.
I have seen it twice and I will have to say the second time was better. The first time I walked out of the theater in an anticlimactic state of mind. It did move VERY quickly from each scene and it was very different from Twilight and New Moon. The second time around I told myself to watch it like I hadn’t read the book. This made it MUCH easier to like it. My niece is making me take her to it one more time, so I am sure I will like it even more. One more thing, the music in New Moon and how they used it through out the movie is SO MUCH BETTER than Twilight and Eclipse. I didn’t get that emotional height from the music in Eclipse….. So if I was giving this movie stars it would have to be three and a half out of four.
I’m so relieved that there are people like me who are very dissapointed with eclipse movie. I went to see the movie at the first day, couldn’t wait to see it, didn’t reread the book not to remember the details (as if i could forget), just not be more disappointed. i understand that the movies cannot be as rich as the books there is not enough time for every scene and we enrich the books with our imagination. But i didn’t imagine the dialogues, they were written on the book. Am I wrong? And come on why remove existing scenes to put other ones those do not exist in book? I cannot understand that. I would love to see Alice’s kidnapping of Bella, the tent scene when Edward lets Jacob see in his mind, the scene of Bella and Edward in the tent after kissing Jacob and accepting she loved him, the breakdown Bella had after talking to Jacob, crying out the love of Jacob in her heart. And shouldn’t Bree have difficulty stay put near Bella, ask Cullens how they could bear it.
After all i could understand and live with all this till the dialog at the end! When i heard that dialog i felt very very upset and really angry.. And just like Michelle I muttered in disbelief and anger the entire way home. And stayes up and reread the book once more just to soothe myself. I don’t understand it, why are they trying the kill the story? why does Stephanie let this happen? They say that she was on the set most of the time. is it just about money? Don’t they get enough as they break the box office records, as we all rush to each movie, even though we are disappointed.
At Newmoon, they made Bella say Jacob she loved him at the last scene, though she didin’t accept it till the middle of Eclipse, and now they put a dialog where Bella said she wanted to be a vampire because that is what she is supposed to be, that she will be stronger something like that, not because she couldn’t live without him. sorry if i don’t remember it in detail (in fact I put a lot of effort in to forget that). And more absurdly, Edward teased with it! There is actually a dialog in the book where Edward hesitates if Bella wanted immortality more than she wanted him and asks Bella. And she says “there’s no point to forever without you. I wouldn’t want one day without you.”
In fact, my favorite book is Breaking Dawn, so i’m begging Melissa Rosenberg please don’t ruin this beautiful story, just stick to the book it is enough. And Stephenie Meyer, as the producer of the movie please keep, protect the magic story you wrote in the movie.
I do not even know where to start…Like all of you I was very excited to see Eclipse. I watched all scenes that Summit released before the movie itself and couldn’t wait to see the whole movie. I knew that the film would not be as good as the book, of course. I actually thought Twilight and New Moon were good BEFORE I read all books. After I finished the books, I thought about the first two movies and realized how disappointing they were. So I went to see Eclipse with excitement and caution at the same time. I tried not to compare it to the book while watching it…It was impossible. I almost flinched in my seat when I saw Bella jump on Jacob’s motorcycle in front of Edward. There was another seen where she actually yelled at Edward!?!? (I don’t really remember why but she yelled something like “Don’t!” and walked away). What in the world were they thinking?! Bella would never ever even think of talking to him like that! She is too in love and obsessed with him to even see a single flaw in his behavior. There was absolutely no energy between Bella and Edward in the movie. It almost felt like he was begging her to be with him and she was trying to convince herself that Edward was what she wanted…What in the world? And too much Jacob. I agree he is a central personage in the book as well but it felt like he dominated over Edward which would never happen. The movie did not convey how much Bella tortured herself for being in love with Jacob. How guilty and miserable she felt. A very important scene that was missing was when she cried in Edwards arms all night because of Jacob and how horrible she felt for hurting Edward. I do not even want to mention the final meadow scene that many people already discussed.
What they did well were the fighting scenes…After I left the theater all I could immediately remember was Jacob and the fighting scenes. It felt like they tried to make a scary action vampire movie and just touch on the love story (because fans would get mad if it was completely missing). Seriously, if I didn’t like Robert Pattinson so much (although this role does not let him show much acting skills), I would have thought this movie a complete waste of time and nerves. I did not just waste my time, I got myself upset…
Ok so I can see I’m not the only one disappointed with the movie, and some bits I agree on have already been touched so I shan’t need to go into detail however there are some parts where I totally disagree, alot (no offence intended) in the last post… The parts I felt worst about was that although it happens in the book, Jacob seems totally arrogant and so unlikeable. My mum, who hasn’t seen New Moon, was like u don’t like jacob at all.. But she can’t understand… The plot wasn’t focused around him at all, all the lines he was given, he was clearly directed to say them in such a way that I was upset with how he was portrayed, Taylor played Jacob extremely well in New Moon and none of tha was given a chance to show in Eclipse. Also I simply cannot understand why anyone is saying that there wasn’t enough romance between Bella and Edward, OF COURSE there was! Everything was pushing and shoving the audience into rooting for Edward because this is aimed at female fans and yes it’s a love story but none of the anguish was shown of the complex and beautiful story, it was all about Edward. I’m trying to be fair here by I was so frustrated when I came out of the cinema thinking back, trying not to compare to the book, I mean the last scene between Jake and Bella? The book made me phsically cry, the movie? This scene was pathetic, Bella seems to have so little emotion, it’s like they’re trying to stick to her personality in all the worng areas…Jacob is also argumentative thorughout the entire movie, and in the book he’s more bella’s Jacob and she sees him fir it half way through the movie..
And where’s the end? You’d think that they would recognise it follows through to the next story, mind I haven’t read breaking dawn fully yet… Eclipse was my favourite book yet my least favourite film so far, the whole movie was rushed and the story changed too much from the book. I’m sorry if people don’t like what I’ve written, I don’t not like Edward at all but when I was reading the book…it’s the feel tjat is important to me and I had stronger emotions towards Jacob and every scene made us want to root for Edward in the film, he does have flaws and they skipped bots out that would make us at least dislike him for a while and put it all on Jacob, it just wasn’t fair in my opinion. I hope people can see this as an insight into the point of view of someone on team Jacob, and not in any way trying to start a fight or whatever. This story is an epic love tale, I see that but the film just didn’t do the book justice.
I have read the books and seen the movies and the movies do no justice to the books. Your missing out if you just watch the movies, at least on the details side.
