Wow! I perused the list of her books and was going to comment that the one I THOUGHT I read, Salem Falls, was haunting. Then I clicked your list of 5 alternative books and realized it was Anita Shreve’s Testimony I was thinking of. I love her.

I have picked up Jodi P’s books, but as a writer myself (albeit not even in the same universe in terms of being published) I just can’t read a book that I think I could have written. I want to read beautiful works. I think Shreve writes with such sparseness it is painful. John Irving creates these characters and storylines that I don’t think I could imagine in a gazillion years.

Thanks for this opportunity to share!

I love all of Picoult’s books. Will be buying her latest book Singing You Home.
I too am a fan of Anita Shreve, Alice Hoffman, Anne Tyler and Sue Miller among the many American woman writers.
I always buy books based on your booklists.
