Good Airport Reads

Airport reading needs to be fast-paced enough to make your wait fly by and engaging enough to keep your attention from people watching or staring at whatever is playing on the airport news channel. Airport reading shouldn't be too emotionally engaging, though (no one wants to break down in tears in a crowded terminal). If you are looking for entertaining, intelligent reads to take with you on your next trip, look no further.

'The Litigators' by John Grisham

The Litigators by John Grisham
Doubleday

Grisham serves up the kind of novel he does best in The Litigators, a fast-paced legal thriller. While The Litigators doesn't break new ground, it is a solid story that will keep your interest and make your travel time more enjoyable.

'Iron House' by John Hart

Iron House by John Hart
Thomas Dunne Books

Iron House by John Hart is a smart crime novel about two brothers who are orphaned as children. One becomes a professional killer, but when he tries to leave that life, he will also be forced to reunite with his brother to protect them both. If you don't want a formula but do want something suspenseful, Iron House is a good choice.

'Cocktail Hour Under the Tree of Forgetfulness' by Alexandra Fuller

Cocktail Hour under the Tree of Forgetfulness by Alexandra Fuller
Penguin

Cocktail Hour Under the Tree of Forgetfulness by Alexandra Fuller is a memoir that is not going to weigh you down. Fuller's writing about her childhood in Africa is a delight to read.

'The Mill River Recluse' by Darcie Chan

Darcie Chan

The Mill River Recluse by Darcie Chan was one of the surprise bestsellers of 2011. Chan could not find a publisher, so she self-published her novel as an e-book and sold in for $0.99. Readers loved the book and it became very popular. The story is, in fact, a quick and enjoyable read that contains some suspense and romance. It is not deep or literary but is perfect airport reading at the right price for those with e-readers.

'Major Pettigrew's Last Stand' by Helen Simonson

Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson
Random House

Sweet, romantic and fun, Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson tackles family relationships and generational changes in a delightfully British setting. This is a book that is interesting enough for a book club, but light enough for the airport.
