When you are deciding what to read, which of these factors has the most influence -- know the author, book reviews, friends' recommendation or popularity (the book is a bestseller)?
I think for most of us, it is probably a mix. If I loved an author's last book, though, that is a sure way to get me to read the next one. Of course, I will admit this often leaves me disappointed. It is sort of like going to a sequel of a favorite movie. It can never be as good as the first.
What influences your reading choices the most?

When I was young, I used to read the popular paperback books with a catchy title and racy, absorbing style of writing. Nowadays, however, I read the classics, reviewed often and recommended for reading by the cognoscenti.
I like reading Jodi Picoult, along with her style.Michael Adaatje or whatever isn’t bad either.I find reading builds the imagination no matter how old you are (it is good).Another favourite is Farley Mowet.Herb Curtis sticks out too! FROM CANADA SIMON PETER BEDARD
I rely heavily on customer reviews and recommendations from friends. I research the book on line before deciding whether or not to read it. I always finish a book that I start even if I’m not really enjoying it, so because my time is limitied I do lots of research so I don’t waste my time on something I many not enjoy. Also, once I find an author I like I ready EVERYTHING by that author.
Working for a publisher, I have expanded the books I like to read. Now I tend to migrate to non-fictions about US history. Somehow I find the unusual story not told in school. “Improbable Patriot” by Harlow Unger comes to mind.
Hi I do let the cover and author influence me . The library that I use for my source of books always have colorful covers and also the name of the author carries alot of influence. then I read the reviews and talk with friends for their opinions. best seller list is also a good source.
