One for the Money Book Vs. Movie

By , About.com Guide   January 25, 2012

Follow me on:

'One for the Money' by Janet EvanovichOne for the Money hits theaters this week. Janet Evanovich sold the rights to the movie several years ago and didn't have any say in the casting or script. I have to admit, Katherine Heigl is not how I pictured Stephanie Plum. What about you? If you are a Janet Evanovich fan, how did you think the movie version of One for the Money compared to the book?

Katherine as Stephanie I can get over, but isn’t at all what I expected. Wrong hair, too tall and too sophisticated. However, the actors chosen for Morelli, Ranger and Granma are so wrong I don’t even want to try sitting through the movie. Grandma is supposed to look 20 years older than her age not 15 years younger than her age. And her hair is supposed to be processed to death, not elegantly coifed. And Morelli is supposed to be tall and hot not medium height and wimpy. Ranger is supposed to be smoking hot not just ok looking, Even Lula isn’t great. I am so repulsed by the choices that I can’t imagine being able to watch the movie without wanting to tear my hair out. Really disappointed.

Movie was ok, but nothing like the book. There actors did ok but not great and was nothing like I had pictured in the book.

None of the actors were good choices. I don’t dislike Heigl, but I just don’t find her appealing in anything that she has done.

As for the men – I don’t know either of the two leads, but just from appearance I have no desire to see the movie.

God I just love people who critique a movie without seeing it.

Just saw this last night. It was cast so poorly. As evidenced by casting an Irish man as the lead Italian character. Grandma Mazur was completely wrong, I always pictured the Grandma from The Nanny as Grandma Mazur. The acting was so so, more like they were just reading the lines not saying them. Ranger was a good cast but the script for him didn’t seem to be like Ranger. The biggest disappointment from the movie was Big Blue. It is described in such detail in the book and they got it so wrong. A 53 Buick Roadmaster and they used what appeared to be a 70’s model. It was also indestructible in the book but got its window broke in the movie. A small detail but Big Blue is a legend of indestructibility.

Saw the movie last weekend. Highly disappointed! They left out all the best parts of the book and under developed the characters drastically. Every character was cast very wrong, with the exception of maybe Vinnie. I hope new readers take a chance on the books because Janet writes way better! I was really looking forward to a sequel with Sally Sweet, but with out better writing and casting I can’t see that happening after this flop.

I have read every Stephanie Plum novel. My husband and I saw the movie this week and we both enjoyed it – it was funny – it was FUN! It’s not the book Babe, but the movie worked for us Cupcake! I know other Stephanie Plum novel fans who have seen the movie and enjoyed it as well.
