In the Shadow of the Banyan is not just one of the best debut novels of 2012, it is one of the best books of 2012. Period. I finished this book over the weekend and am still reeling. It inspired the longest set of book club questions I have ever written because even if you are not in a book club, this is something you are going to want to chew on.
