Meyer grew up in Phoenix, Arizona and was one of six children. She met her husband, Christian, in high school, but they did not marry until after she graduated from Brigham Young University. Meyer has three sons. She is Mormon.

Meyer's started her writing career in Young Adult fiction. In 2005, she published her first book, Twilight, about a teenager who falls in love with a good vampire. Meyer has also published four sequels to Twilight and one adult novel, The Host.
