The Brown Bag Book Club is a workplace book club in Madison, Wisconsin that meets once a month over lunch. They have seven people who attend regularly: Sue, Norma, Judi, Wendy, Monica, Renae, and Barbie, but say others visit and are always welcome. They have been meeting for more than 5 years and have read more than 50 books.

Says Barbie, "This list encompasses a wide variety of genres. That is one of the strengths of our book club; we read a wide variety of books ... We encourage every book club to break out and read a wide variety."

1. 'The Greatest Generation' by Tom Brokaw

Brokaw relates stories of World War II veterans.

2. 'The Secret Life of Bees' by Sue Monk Kidd

4. 'The Princess Bride' by William Goldman

Many have seen this fantastical movie. Your book club can check out the book for a tale of giants, pirates, princesses and love.

5. 'Population 485: Meeting Your Neighbors One Siren at a Time' by Michael Perry

Rick Perry writes about returning to his hometown in Wisconsin and joining the volunteer fire department. Population 485: Meeting Your Neighbors One Siren at a Time is a series of essays on small town life told through the calls Perry responded to.

Kingsolver shows a great appreciation for nature in this novel that weaves together three stories in Appalachia.

9. 'Charlotte’s Web' by E.B. White

Charlotte's Web is a classic children's story about a spider who helps her pig friend, Wilbur, become a star.

10. 'The Lovely Bones' by Alice Sebold

The Lovely Bones is told by Susie Salmon, who is in heaven (which is nothing like she expected) and watching events unfold on earth after her murder.
