The movie version of Message in a Bottle, starring Kevin Costner and Robin Wright Penn, was released in 1999. The book Message in a Bottle was released in 1998. Message in a Bottle is about a woman who finds a love letter in a bottle and becomes determined to track down the author.

'A Walk to Remember'

The movie version of A Walk to Remember, starring Shane West and Mandy Moore, was released in 2002. The book was released in 1999. A Walk to Remember is the story of a popular guy who is forced to tutor a plain girl from a poor school. Love and tragedy occur, as they do in all Sparks' books.

'Dear John'

Dear John is trademark Nicholas Sparks--romantic, sappy, sad and redeeming. Dear John is a love story about an army sergeant who falls in love shortly before 9/11. Recommended for those who like sappy romantic comedies (or tragedies, in Sparks' case). Dear John was published in 2006. The movie will be released in February 2010.

'The Last Song'

When Veronica Miller's parents divorce and her dad moves from New York City to Wilmington, NC, she becomes angry and estranged from both of them. Two years after the divorce, Veronica's mother decides that she wants her to spend the whole summer with her father in Wilmington. This summer is the backdrop for another Nicholas Sparks tear-jerking, heart-rending family drama -- The Last Song. This book was released in 2009, but the movie rights were sold before it was even written. Also, Sparks wrote it with Miley Cyrus (who is starring in the movie) in mind. The movie was released in April 2010.

'The Lucky One'

After finding it, he experiences good luck in many situations. He attributes the luck to the photo. Once home, he decides to track down the woman in the picture.
